MODERN COURTYARD
The ever-decreasing size of garden area available in unit developments presents an increasing challenge to the landscape designer.
This long narrow courtyard space is overlooked from three rooms in the townhouse. Each window faced north, consequently the whole courtyard presented issues in Summer.
However, here was the perfect opportunity for a small garden of rooms. The view from each window is of a different 'room' in this Japanese influenced garden. The treatment of the paved areas is a device for linking each of these three spaces. The pebble work is a metaphor for water and forms a unifying thread through the whole landscape.
